God Damned Angel,

God Damned Angel,

A Poem by scarlynn

The worst part of sobriety is:
even when you don't become an angel yourself,
you tend to acquire them;
I want God
To stop giving me angels

I tell Him, "stop f*****g protecting me,"

I want God to lift you up and
place you upright on the street, walking
in time with the beat of your living heart, your
lungs inhaling oxygen alone, but
I get it

You always told me that I reach for life, that
I beat the odds, that I'm
Your hero, I'm not, George
I'm just vengeful, egotistical,

and now I'm getting nightmares about
my name on your funeral invitations because
we both know you're smart enough to
lie your way out of a welfare check

because, you're fine, the cops told me-
But I want God to keep your wings
Tucked into your spine, there's nothing
Angelic about this

Wow, I love your rawness. The flow, rhythm, and especially the emotion, is incredible.
