Beauty is a concept and not a fixed reality. Thus Shakespeare says in Love's Labors Lost, "Beauty is bought by judgement of the eye". So I fail to note a denigration or patronization in the context that would merit the title "chauvinism". In my own humble opinion it is better that beauty be bought by the mind, heart and spirit. However, I do not demean or revile a fairness of complexion or a pleasing appearance. Beauty is subjective.
