What Happened To Us

When me and my boyfriend broke up after 2 years

We gave up

On us and what we had

Now we are friends 

Talk time from time

Say our hi's

and how are you's

But really what I want to say is

I miss you

But I won't 

Now it's been

 4 years 

I stayed as your friend

Watched you move on 

From one person to the next

While I slowly moved on

Was there for every breakup

Supporting you after

Finally you stopped 

with one last girl

You were so happy

I decided it was my turn to be happy

I went on to make myself happy

found someone that loved me for me 

They helped me through the pain

And now I'm ready to face you

Helped you with the

girl you thought was the one

But then she went and left 

Leaving you broken

I helped put you back together

After, I told you

it was the last time

No more

You ask why

I say I can't 

Not anymore

I need to be there for me

I don't want to say goodbye

But if that's what I need

Then goodbye it is

I walk away

From you and 

your hopelessness

You watch now 

As I move on 

Leaving you behind 

For a better me

I love you but

I need to love myself more

Hello Marie, I love to write, and I love to read, poetry about love gone awry. So I liked your poem. Are you still only 16? Your poem reflected so much trauma and heartache and serial painful events, it seemed a lot to be packed into such a young life.
