To My Dear Friend

To My Dear Friend

A Poem by Marie Kinnett

I can't do it
Stand there watching
You be beaten down again and again
I always ask
What do you need
You say your fine
But I can see the truth
The Truth in your eyes
The pain you have
And the joy you use to cover it
Every time you talk to me
I can see
The suffering and pain you go through
The abuse you want to hide
but it sticks out
I try to help and give advice
But you say its fine
So I step aside
But it is killing me to see you walk ahead
On the hurtful road
So I tell you let me know
What I can do
Even if its to be by your side
OR if I need to leave
Ill do it
As long as you're alive
If it means I watch from afar
As you take the pain
And smile through it all
I'll be there.... My Friend

I love the rhythm of this! Whenever I read poems in my head, I love when they have a beat and flow. It gives a sense of story telling, and this is a kind of poem you can read out loud. It's really compelling and I think it's very powerful.
