dreams of you

dreams of you

A Poem by Michael Nava

Your figure stands prominently amongst the envious stars,
Gazing into the nights dreary haze.
Engulfing the darkness with your luminating smile.

Your face rekindles my anguished heart, evoking memories
of repressed feelings and love lost.
Renewing my hearts necessity for your affection.

Butterflies fill my stomach as I converge with you.
Your heartbeat piercing my skin with a vibrant rhythm,
Carelessly tapping at my hearts lovesick scab.

I gaze at you,
looking deep into your beautiful eyes.
wishing you’d understand, That my feelings for you go beyond any words.

I embrace you lovingly as the sun rises in the distance,
gently holding your head against my chest.
Soothing you with the words of a love struck romantic.

Sunlight begins to filter through your body as I hold you, extracting pieces of you like an angelic puzzle.
I attempt to kiss your lips as your figure begins to dissolve in light, but your face passes right through me.
I struggle  to hold you for a last time, but I all I grab is the cold desolate air around me.

The sound of my alarm clock  wakes me.
but To my dismay, It was only a dream
Thousands of thoughts race  through my head, your face still fresh in my mind.
Years of pain and unrequited love return to aggravate my heart.
Reminding me of pain I thought I would never feel
Reminding me of a love I will never know.
