Standstill

Standstill

A Poem by mnicorata
"

A similar theme to my previous poem trying to write things to get off my chest about anxiety, depression, and the like.

"

Oh, how this body of mine acts of its own volition

As a car treading on murky mud

Tires spinning but going absolutely nowhere

My thoughts a thousand miles ahead

Always waving back at the driver, saying “come along”

But the car still stammers and heaves in and out

A catastrophe awaiting to happen but holding back

The car still stuck, drowning in this dirty grimy muck

For I cannot see the road ahead, the hill looks so far and wide

Oh, how I wish someone would give me a tow

But would I take it?  Be skeptical, be wary, for there are people out there only in it for sinister reasons

To be hesitant makes this car only drag in this mud

More and more, to sink and to swim

Forever treading but never reaching the hill’s destination

And some will say, you have to make this road yours

To drive pedal to the metal

To pull on through and trudge on

They themselves never paying attention to that hill

One with twists and turns and valleys

They believe they can conquer it but never question

The why, but the how does not concern them

Only to conquer and be victorious is in their strength never questioning of the hill that towers over us all

To be shaken and then stand still

To soak in the beauty of this road we all partake
