Junior High DazeA Poem by Michael StevensMy nightmare!Junior High Daze
Oh, how the panic set in as I stepped
off the bus
into an alternate universe, a
different world
Going from the safe cocoon of
grades 1-6
into 7th, was a total shock to my
system,
I went from the comfort of adults
in charge,
to a ‘you’re on your own!’ free-fall
with no net to catch you
It seemed like overnight, you were
expected to be all grown up,
making your own decisions, about
everything,
and no one could have been more
unprepared,
having led a sheltered life up to
this point
There were times I didn’t think I
would make it,
but I guess I did; although the
scars took years to disappear
