Working Without a Net

Working Without a Net

The crowd filed into the big top, drinks and treats in hand,

Expecting to be entertained, admission was quite a bit

Big top was a book, and the author hoped he wasn’t a clown

He was nervous as he gazed upon the audience

He’d never tried this particular act before,

And he wasn’t sure he could pull it off

See, he wasn’t used to crowds, or center stage

He tended to panic, and run for the exit

When the spotlight got to bright

“But not this time,” he told himself,

“This time I’ll stick around and see what happens!”

The lights dimmed low, and he started his swing

High above the crowd; working without a net,

He let go of the first rope, somersaulted,

Reached for the 2nd, and....
