Mr. Deleplain

Mr. Deleplain

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

One of my fictitious neighbors whom I watch 'From My Window'

"

Staring out the window, Mr. Deleplain sees another boring day

Every day seems just like the last; nothing ever changes

He’s lived on this street for 47 years,

But now he doesn’t even know his neighbors,

Except that Mike guy a little, who’s always just sitting,

Gazing out on nothing, and seeing everything

Mr. Deleplain used to be somebody; now he’s nobody

His children long moved away, and they never come around

His wife gone forever to her eternal rest;

Now, he’s the invisible man,

A pebble thrown into the pond; leaving not a ripple

His big excitement for today?  Going to the grocery store,

To buy some tasteless gruel to gum down

It’s only a couple blocks away, but takes him longer

And longer to drag himself there; cursed old age!
