Alice in Wonderland?

Alice in Wonderland?

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Another poem about the life (or lack thereof?) of Alice Magarey

"

The ringing of the alarm clock wakes Alice Magarey

She groans, and wishes she could just stay in bed,

but she’s got to get up and make her husband’s breakfast,

so he can go ‘bring home the bacon’, as he calls it

To her, it’s more like ‘any excuse to

get away from the old ball and chain’

Yet, once she’s up, she enjoys the peace and quiet,

where she’s free to travel wherever her mind takes her

Her sad-sack husband has gone back to sleep;

expecting her to get to work, making his day a little easier

In the solitude of the silent kitchen, she dreams

that her life was fulfilling, instead of the empty void

it has become
