One With the Pack

One With the Pack

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

The me of now; verses the me of then!

"

One With the Pack

I remember how as a kid, I would have done anything

to be included in the pack, and not be a lone wolf

Nothing could have been worse than to do

anything that was considered ‘out of the norm’

And so, I went along with things I knew to be wrong,

no matter how strongly my brain disagreed;

things such as teasing someone, even though

I secretly understood their position, and

doing stupid things, like not saying how

I really felt about something, because I

was afraid no one would agree with me;

I had zero confidence in thinking for myself

It took me until just a few years ago

to get over that way of thinking

I was mortified to stand out, about anything!

Looking back now, I find it hard to believe the me of then,

I'm disappointed in myself, and my actions

Did your heart disagree as well? I would like to think that you feel far more in control now than you used to. Actually, acknowledge the emotional impact, as you hanged your head in shame, not for a long time, I would imagine??

12 Years Ago

I guess feeling embarrassed would have been a better phrase to use!
