The 1000-Yard Stare

The 1000-Yard Stare

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

I'm fine, but In just HAD to exaggerate a little!

"

Has anyone seen my life?  You know,

the one that used to always be easily on hand?

I seem to have lost touch with it

Now I feel like I'm standing still,

while everything happens to other people

Just an empty void where my life used to be

I'm well aware that it's completely up to me,

but I can't seem to get enthused about much of anything

Just one of those decades, I guess

I'll start on a project, but then I'll think,

"Why, what's next, except more of the same?"

as one minute turns into hours, then days, then years

I tell myself it'll turn around soon,

but my inner-voice just falls on deaf ears,

and I've developed the 1000-yard stare

I can't count the times that I've felt like this. I think you expressed very well the feeling of not going anywhere with your life.
