The Dying of the Inner-Light

The Dying of the Inner-Light

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

A loner at school

"

She just turned 12, and times should be good;

but for school, they would be; school was a

living hell for her; days spent trying to blend in

with the walls, and not be noticed.  Her worst

fear constantly realized; and that was to stand out

from the crowd, in any way.  The other girls bullied and

teased her unmercifully; they were right,

she was useless and ugly; if only she could have

been born beautiful, then she would have been popular,

instead of an ugly, unpopular loser who never

seemed to do or say the right thing; the table

where she sat, alone, eating her bologna sandwich;

the lunch of chumpians, seemed to mock her also;

"Pathetic loser!"  She had no self-worth, and no self-confidence

Lunch was almost over; the dreaded time was near;

back to face the music, oh boy, more abuse!
