I Saw, But I Still Don't Believe

I Saw, But I Still Don't Believe

A Poem by Michael Stevens

Yesterday marked the 12th anniversary of an event

so unbelievable I say, "I saw it, but I still don't believe it!"

Woke up to a nightmare, woke up to disbelief;

the images of falling towers, dying bodies; surely there

must be a logical explanation, because this made no sense;

 how can you process seeing something so horrific?

Planes as weapons was something totally new,

although we should have expected it; the freaks who

carried it out have no conscience, recognize no

human law or decency, hide behind religion as

an excuse to kill many innocents; it's ironic, isn't it?

Religion's supposed to be about love and non-violence,

and here are some violent extremists using it as

a reason to kill many innocents.  Love your fellow man,

unless they believe something different than you,

then they don't matter, and use their dead bodies

to show the rest of the world how wrong they are!

This attack was done by extremists who believed in what they were doing, but of course that doen't excuse it. Those few wounded the world that day, and it hasn't healed.
