Just a Trick of the Light?

Just a Trick of the Light?

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Unexplained worry

"

I wake up in the dark of night; a distant voice calls to me

from out of the shadows of my mind; warning me

of some unknown evil only one step behind me;

nipping at my heels like a bad memory

Yet, when I stop and turn, nothing and no one

is there to be seen; a vague shadow

stays just out of the light, but I am not sure

I really saw something; like a memory you're

not sure is real; like a voice that you're not sure

you heard, like a face that you just can't recall,

warning you of some undefined trouble

Some sixth sense you cannot explain; or understand;

an unease undefined that you feel in your bones

But you listen to the voice; you trust the feeling

that something is amiss, and that something is real

Your subconscious is always warning you...
Most of us don't take the time to listen to it.

My subconscious is always telling me I'm sounding like a fool, but I tell it to shut its pie hole!
