Just a Trick of the Light?A Poem by Michael StevensUnexplained worry
I wake up in the dark of night; a
distant voice calls to me
from out of the shadows of my mind;
warning me
of some unknown evil only one
step behind me;
nipping at my heels like a bad
memory
Yet, when I stop and turn, nothing
and no one
is there to be seen; a vague shadow
stays just out of the light, but I
am not sure
I really saw something; like a
memory you're
not sure is real; like a voice that
you're not sure
you heard, like a face that you
just can't recall,
warning you of some undefined
trouble
Some sixth sense you cannot
explain; or understand;
an unease undefined that you feel
in your bones
But you listen to the voice; you trust
the feeling
that something is amiss, and that something
is real © 2014 Michael Stevens |
