Stranger Than Fiction

 

I would have called you crazy if you'd told me

 

what lay in store for me in the years ahead

 

That I'd lose everything familiar; that I'd have

 

to move home; that I'd need help, for anything

 

That at age 51 now, I'd have to start everything over;

 

that I'd actually be 51; that I'd be a divorced, 51 year

 

old dude, living with my parents.  Oh, don't get me wrong,

 

I'm lucky to have them there, but I've been independent

 

for so long, and to suddenly find myself not?

It is strange to think about how you would have lived differently if you knew years ago what would happen today. If someone had told me when I was 13 that I'd lose my mom at 21, I would have laughed at them. But I agree with Marie. I think it's a good thing we can't see the future. This is very well done.
