"To Whom it May Concern"A Story by Michael StevensDealing with rejection
I know you
haven't heard from me for quite awhile, but the past memories you conjure up in
me are just too painful for me to face. I
realize how it looks, but not keeping in contact is the only way I can see for
dealing with it. Whether you're a past
girlfriend or just a friend of hers, I'm taking the coward's way out. I want to know nothing of what's happening
now. It's my way of putting my hands
over my ears and saying, "La, la, la, la!" loudly. If I hear nothing, I can pretend whatever I
want. So please, don't be hurt by my
silence. I'm just keeping the past at
arm's length.
