Ghosts Rule the NightA Poem by Michael StevensThoughtsLong after midnight, and your
mind's in overdrive
Sudden, unwanted thoughts appear
out of the dark
Haunting memories from years gone
by,
Dredged up recollections of which
you're not proud,
So long kept under control, but now
back
With a vengeance; shards of bitter
memories
Cutting into your soul, and
bringing you to your knees
You tell yourself there's nothing
you can do
To change them, but they run on an
endless
Loop in your head; if only you'd
done this, Or said that, how different things
would be
Why do we torture ourselves this
way?
