Mind Game; Loser!A Poem by Michael StevensTrying futilely to win the game!"Strap on the your helmet and
get in there"!
Said the mysterious voice in my
head,
The one controlling my actions; the
one I should ignore;
But do I? I bounded off the bench and ran to the huddle
All my other thoughts gave me an incredulous
look, Like "What the Hell are you doing here?"
I looked around at their leering
faces, and spoke up,
"Coach told me to!" "What coach?" said one
Of the player/thoughts;
"There's no coach,
You control your own thoughts, and
you suck at it!
Well, so much for the
game!" "Come on fellas,
Give me a chance, would
ya?" I could see all of them
Shake there heads, but the
quarterback called my
Number, and said, "Concentrate
on whatever thought
Comes into your head, and go
deep! On three!"
We all approached the line of
scrimmage, and on "hut three!"
I streaked down the field; I was wide open, and screamed,
"Throw it, I'm
open!" Instead, the quarterback
just stared at me
I stopped running and shook my
head, and walked back
To the huddle, where I received
disgusted glares from all
My other thoughts. I said, "What?" and the quarterback
Said sarcastically, "What are you doing?"
I replied, "Trying to score a
touchdown, and I would have
If you'd just thrown the
ball!" He just glared at me,
And I looked around to see if there
was something I missed
That's when I noticed the other
thoughts were playing hockey!
It's very hard to win the mind
game, if you're
Not even playing the right sport!
