Failure IS An Option!A Story by Michael StevensCharacter-Driven! I don't know what it is, can't explain it
(maybe I just relate somehow; they say you should write about what you know!),
but an awful lot of the characters I write about are people who fail, yet get
in line for more failure. Like the cow
who waits blissfully in line behind his mates, unaware of his stunning fate,
unaware they're about to decorate the butcher's display case, these characters
keep getting their figurative man-cookies chopped off and apparently don't
notice the blood running down their legs into their Doc Martens. I don't know about you, but I find characters
who keep on trying, and keep on failing, much more interesting than people who
are run over by a manure spreader and come out smelling like Chanel Number Five,
instead of the like a camper who needs to take a whizz and stumbles their way
to an outhouse that hasn't been cleaned since 1975. I enjoy getting in the minds of these
perpetual losers (I don't find it all that difficult!) and writing about their
intelligence-challenged misadventures.
Maybe one day I'll write about a character who hang glides from the
cliff of doom, and doesn't panic when their hang glider folds up like an
accordion in a heavy cross wind and plummets ground ward (I have two questions really;
one; what did you expect to happen when you decided to take your accordion
flying, and two; how drunk are you?) and yet who lands safely, with perfect
hair; naw!
