The BrandosA Story by Michael StevensRecommendation for an excellent band (at least in my opinion!)
I'd like to tell you about a great, in my
opinion, band that not enough people have heard of, The Brandos. Dave Kinkaid (vocals; guitar) and bassist Ernie Mendillo are
the core members. These guys have more
talent in their pick guards than a lot of more popular, but talent-challenged
bands, have in their...well, let's just say they are incredible! I first became aware of them back in 1987,
when I heard a song on the radio called 'Gettysburg'. I ran out and bought a copy of their first album,
'Honor Among Thieves', and kept my ears peeled for the next record, but
'nothing'. So I just figured they were
one and done, but sometime in the early 2000's, my brother told me they had
signed with a small label and were still going.
I looked them up on the internet and lo and behold, there they were, and
one of the sites listed was their official site, Haunted Field Music. So guess where I immediately went? To the bathroom, but then their site, where I
learned they had released several albums over the years. So I eagerly purchased them all, and wasn't
disappointed when they finally came.
'Gunfire at Midnight' was the first, and over the years they've added
more, 'Over the Border' being the most recent, but that was way back in
2006. I figured they'd gone the way of
the woolly mammoth, but I just checked their site and it says they're working on
a new album; yeah! I enthusiastically
recommend you keep an eye out for it (no, not literally!) as I'd be willing to
bet you'll love it. Kinkaid has a voice
that is reminiscent of John Fogarty (CCR). There are several videos of them up on the
net; check them out! © 2014 Michael Stevens |
