The Stranger's Reflection

The Stranger's Reflection

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Every once in a while

"

There's a face, a stranger's face, staring back

At me from the mirror; a face I don't recognize,

A cruel, sneering face; a face devoid of empathy,

A face that haunts me after all these years,

It's a strangers reflection;

He certainly looks like me

And yet he cannot possibly be,

Because he has said things and acted in ways

That I would have never said or done

And yet it must be me

Wow. Looking in the mirror after we have done something we are not proud of, and what it does to us.

In my case, my reflection is better looking than I am, lol. :D What did you do that's so horrible that you no longer recognize yourself?

Of course. If you did, I'm sure anyone could tell by reading your writing.

Yeah, "Don't be a gloomy Gus!"
We all have two faces, and so does the mirror, or so I'm told.
