The Uninvited (My Own Worst Enemy)

The Uninvited (My Own Worst Enemy)

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Whispered doubts

"

There it is again, that voice,

Whispering doubts in my ear,

Shouting down my feeble excuses;

Never lets me forget my fears,

Putting me in my place when I

Start to think too positively, when I start

Trying to talk myself into believing things

Just may work out; that they may go my

Way; whispering it's for my own good;

Just protecting me, how expecting the worst

Is only common sense; after all,

If I don't expect much, I'll never be

Disappointed; we share the a point of view; we

Share a name; we share a brain

What brain is that you share? It's common sense to prepare for the worst, but not to expect it.

Honestly Mike, I don't understand why you're so self-doubting. You always brush these kind of things off with a joke. I'm not trying to be your psychiatrist, I just worry about you sometimes.
