Running on Empty

Running on Empty

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

NOT the Jackson Browne song; no, the race of life!

"

NOT the way I normally feel, unless the day sucks, so keep your skivvies on!

******

Man, I'm really moving, yes, I'm just a blur,

I must be so far along, so fer--

Err--far from the place I used to be

But wait, isn't that the same house I've just seen?

Hold on, everything looks the same as before

I've entered some kind of time warp when I jogged out the door

Well, slap my a*s and call me something that's not Mike

It seems a new life is still quite a hike

I've been running my butt off but I'm just running in place

Seems I suck at everything and am losing the race

I've heard it said you can't make chicken salad from chicken s**t

Thank you 'Airplane!', thanks to you, I finally get it!

You sound like the White Queen in "Alice THrough the Looking Glass". She had to run as hard as she could just to stay in the same place.
