Beat a Dead Horse

Beat a Dead Horse

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Inner demons

"

I know this is ground I've trod before, many times,

But I haven't got it out of my system just yet

Have you ever thought about something, some action

From your long-ago past and shake your head in shame?

It must have been someone else who acted that way,

Because there is absolutely no way you would

Have acted in such a manner.  What hidden demon

Lives in a deep dark corner of your brain,

Covered in cobwebs, that crawls into the light very rarely?

My mind is ninety-nine percent mapped and explored,

But it's that last one percent that frightens me

Unexplored, un-mapped, unknown anger must reside there

Close the door on it; chain the door; put a padlock on the door; turn the key and throw it away.
