Dear Winifred, I just want to commend all the cable news channels for their totally unbiased reporting and for keeping us informed. I work all day, and it's nice to come home and turn on the T.V. to catch up on all the important happenings. I'm so appreciative, signed Up With Cable News

 

Dear Up With Cable News, is this a joke? It had damn well better be, or you're the most idiotic person to write in for the last 20 minutes. Their coverage of the news is like a cat hacking up a hairball, you watch it with disbelief, because you know it's just a matter of time before it spews a fountain of disgusting s**t all over the carpet, or in this case, your eyes. They take a mildly interesting story, and show it over and over, until you swear if you see it one more time, you'll s**t where you stand. They must think the average viewer is about as intelligent as one ply toilet paper. Sure, it's cheaper, but get ready to shake hand with Mr. Brownie. They also seem incapable of covering more than one story at a time. Whatever happened to 'We report, You Decide?' It's become, 'We Report, We Decide, You Can Screw Off if You Have Any Kind Of a Brain'  Winifred

VERY difficult to find unbiased news nowadays. A lot of the problem relates to ownership, very few people now own practically all of the media outlets.
But American cable television is especially asinine, its as if they are trying to dumb everyone down!
Even channels like History and Discovery which used to show documentaries of some actual merit are now spewing out endless ours of shows like Storage Wars which have a very tenuous relationship to any actual history or discovery.

Yeah, totally agree, but are they trying to dumb everyone down, or just catering to our wants? I'm afraid that overall society as a whole has been dumbed down already!, you know how dumb society's gotten when Phil from "Duck Dynasty' is quoted in coverage of a Republican candidate for president a in 2012, I believe. I mean, why that guy's opinion matters about ANYTHING is amazing to me!

Well I DO know one thing, "Today's news coverage imitates total bulls***!"

Interesting, I consider myself a 'lefty' and I think 'socialism' has gotten a bad name, mostly from the media. I look at Canada, who has socialized medicine, and I think "What's wrong with that?" I think people equate socialism with communism, and I don't think the media does anything to help people understand the difference. Having said I lean left, I think the far left AND the far right are equally bad, and I think the media's where they're at to cater to the extremes, on both sides. I think a lot of it is the media's controlled by the capitalists, and the very thought of 'socialism' scares the crap out of them.

Like practically EVERY COUNTRY in the world, except the U.S. has health care for their citizens, most people consider it a basic human right! Here in Canada unfortunately we have been taking the privatization road more and more recently, and I now have to cover some of my medical expenses. It is a crippling burden for low income earners. But in the states what with all those years with Russia you have all been conditioned to equate socialism with communism and both of those with the devil. Anyway Russia never had real communism anyway, they had a dictatorship, and like you said too far to either extreme is bad.
But if you want to see socialism in action, look at the Scandinavian countries, and I'm telling you they have it pretty good there, highest standards of living globally!

I was going to bring up Sweden, I think it is, things seem pretty good there, but that is the wrong kind of happiness, apparently. That would require actually being concerned with the individual happiness of everyone, rich and poor, not like here with only the happiness of the people who can afford it!

Exactly my friend! Apparently some countries are now measuring their prosperity levels on a kind of human happiness scale (forget the exact details now) wow, what an innovating way to look at things!

People really need to re-evaluate their priorities in life, and the media has a strong interest in keeping the current system the way it is!!

I have to agree with Winifrid on this one; I get all my news off the Internet. Which may not be much better.
