Running to Nowhere

Running to Nowhere

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

The light-speed world

"

Everybody's got to hurry, hurry, hurry.

Yes, in a rush to get where, exactly?

It's a light speed panic to get nowhere fast,

like we run far enough, we can escape our past.

We seem to live at perpetual high speed,

and I still don't exactly understand the need.

Used to be it was day and night.

Now it's constant motion under neon lights.

Can't waste a second, it's go, go, go.

Just where the fire is, I do not know.

Ya, I see it. My mother retired and now has constant projects, making clothes and baking. She is always in a rush. My wife always wants to go out somewhere other than home. She'll rush to the park, so she can relax; or to the mall, so she can stroll while I want to rush back to the car. I think there's just so much that's new or we've heard opinions about too many things that we need to see or do. We want a lot.

Agreed, thank you much!
It is a sign of the times we live in--people rushing around for what seems no good reason. I do it myself--hurrying when there's no real need to hurry, yet unable to slow down.

Yeah, I guess we all do it!
