Change Unforeseen

Change Unforeseen

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

The day

"

Long ago...I had it all set before me, or so I thought.

Truth is, I can barely remember how it was back then.

In an instant it was--gone, just like that.

I had to change my plans and my outlook,

though I certainly didn't want to.

***

My new world came in the form of a hospital room.

I had no memory of the accident, and still don't to this very day,

which is probably a good thing, but to lose a moment

of my life, such a momentous, life-changing one,

still seems like a loss, somehow, if that makes any sense?

***

I've tried making chicken salad out of chicken s**t,

it's still just chicken s**t, isn't it?

You can't make chicken salad out of chicken s**t. Throw the s**t away and start over.

You mean a line from 'Airplane' was factually incorrect?
