Whatever Generation--a collaboration with mattavelli

A Poem by Michael Stevens

If you like it, it was most likely me--if not, him--lol!

Whatever Generation: By Michael Stevens & Mattavelli

Welcome to the way it is, as you've seen on T.V.,
with all this information, covering catastrophe;
too much to wrap our heads around and truly say, "I get it";
so, we choose to say, "whatever", and then we just forget it.

Like, is it really torture to hold men and abuse them
or does an enhanced phrasing help us to approve them;
these methods that should break the minds and get us what we need...
We're done making friends, so whatever you say, it's agreed.

Global warming is causing our planet to microwave itself on high
and because of self-centered politicians, it's just left to wither and die.
"Just keep on doing what you're doing, nothing needs to change."
Their failure to see the obvious is criminal, but whatever, the world is strange.

And are there just too many guns out in the USA,
when children grab these shiny toys and find their friends to play,
and crazies, hoodlums, even cops are ready for killing...
Seems like we could solve this, but whatever, we're not willing.

We saw that healthcare for the poor was fought against tooth and nail,
by cold hearted people paid by lobbyists who almost got their fail.
Now we just shrug, turn the channel, and say, "What can we do?
Whatever, the system is rigged for the rich, not me and you."

And with so much money wrapped up in corporate markets,
where experts keep finding new ways of lining their pockets,
why should we expect jobs for our youth with their fresh degrees...
Whatever, outsourcing is great for our retirees.

Political gridlock is letting us all fall through the cracks.
While we say whatever, powerful lobbies are distorting the facts.
Rome burns while Nero fiddles, and we, the common man,
feel powerless to affect or change anything, so nothing does, again.

And so our list of problems grows longer as each day passes.
'What can we do about it?" ask we, the blinders-on masses,
"Are there too many problems, let others worry about them,
"Just say whatever and move on?" who do we condemn?

Thank you, and it was fun working with mattavelli!
This is beautiful, Michael!!! It's as if you've done half the work of solving our problems here with your writing. You have kindled a fire of hope, a beacon for us to turn to during these pessimistic times. Bravo!
The other guy was nice too.
