Self-Portrait!

Self-Portrait!

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

At last, an image--err--of me!

"

I know some of you wonder what I look like,

so I've painted my self-portrait I've cleverly titled 'Mike"

Now, don't laugh at my rather pathetic painting attempt,

I never said I was good--I, too, have nothing but contempt

for my artistic skills, but I think it's the overall feeling of the piece.

Note the blank expression and the two buck teeth,

but I think it really catches the essence of me!

that's one more tooth than I have, but it's the intelligence I want you to see.

And my head is more rounded, but see, my hand slipped,

and I had to square it up, but doesn't it look like I just quipped

something smart-a*s or humorous, at least according

to me? And, I have over-sized eyes just like this, except I'm ageing,

so my right eye looks more at the ground than straight ahead, think

'Wall-eyed pike' in human form, and I look like I've had too much to drink.

I haven't touched a drop--sober as a judge--I swear it is true--

okay, I look nothing like this--I can't lie to you!
