Reflection of Revulsion

Reflection of Revulsion

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Our skewered politics

"

Can I really trust what my eyes are telling me?

Or is it just a reflection through a Prism of Insanity?

A leading presidential candidate slurs women, and everything.

A poor-taste guy yesterday--now has become first-string?

With the rude s**t he says, how has this guy not self-imploded?

I guess the things I thought were class, have become outmoded.

There is no way I can picture him on the world stage,

with his third grade sexist put-downs, and his phony outrage,

he reminds me of the elementary school bully--lashing out

to cover his own ineptitude--replacing knowledge with an ugly shout.

I want to believe that surely people see what's happening--are not blind.

Come on, people, this guy is the best you could find?

And more importantly, what does that say about us?

Are we actually going to do it, throw our values under the bus?
