Dispiriting Maze

Dispiriting Maze

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Reality

"
Which way to go? Nothing changes and there's no way out of here.

The political walls are getting closer, fueled by outrage and fear.

Outside is lost common sense, and reason--remember reason?

But you're too bought and paid for, in this mad season.

I stubble around, caught in this nightmare maze,

trapped here by endless no's and political malaise.

All is inaction, all is defeatism before we even start--despite what the people want.

Remember us, politicians? We're the patient, and we're looking mighty gaunt.

Responding to the few, or whomever can pay,

you block everything, but especially the voice of the majority, who say

'no!' to idiotic protecting of the gun manufacturers, and listen only to the tiny few

who block any changes to any gun law, and the hell with the majority who do

support common sense changes, not an out-and-out ban.

And we're guaranteed several more Sandy Hooks, in our wild west land.
