Not Even Bothering...

Not Even Bothering...

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Today's politics

"

I was so excited when Obama was elected,

but little did I know, I never even suspected

that racism would be released from where it lay dormant,

that hatred and fear of difference would so torment.

Maybe it was always there, just out of sight.

Maybe it was an unspoken truth of the right.

So much they feared change, they had to vocalize it. But they

denied racism played a part in the hateful things they'd say.

But now, with Trump currently riding high in the polls,

a man who spews open anger with the actions he extols,

it seems to me that racism is now out from the shadows.

The anger, fear, and yes, hatred he trumpets knows

no bounds, no restraint, and he and his supporters don't

even try to hide it--they say that being politically-correct won't

cure our many problems, the time for tough talk is now.

And so, some people's right to be here, he disavows.

But there's a difference between tough talk and rude.

If he's elected, at least to me, this country's so screwed!
