The View From Mike's Face, Jan. 13A Story by Michael StevensJust my opinion!
Last nights' STOTU speech reminded me of why I first began to support President Obama. I thought it was a great speech, striking just the right tone between hope for the future, and taking shots at the bombastic idiotic rhetoric coming out of the gigantic face hole of that dangerous idiot, Donald Trump, along with saying we can, and should, do a better job of cooperating. He also trumpeted the many things he got done, but you'd never guess it according media. And, while I didn't watch Gov. Nikki Haley's Republican response, I did read a transcript. It took it's obligatory shots at the president, but I thought it also took shots at Mr. Dick Trump.
What sold me on thinking it was an okay response was the fact that Ann Coulter said 'Obama should deport Haley'. If it pissed Coulter off, it must have been okay, and moderate. Her response illustrates the kind of thinking that I feel is the main problem with our politics today--the 'us verses them' mentality. I admit, I've been doing my share of this, but it's sad that it has to be this way. It should be the just the 'us' mindset. And, it's perpetuated by the media, who seem to think politics is the same as the Super Bowl, someone's going to win, and someone's going to lose. The truth is, it's US who all lose when people have that mentality. The President's plea for more cooperation fell on not only deaf ears, but red, swollen-with-hate deaf ears. I can only hope that somehow, the voices of reason drown out those of anger and ugly hate, but I'll not be holding my breath! © 2016 Michael Stevens |
