Hillbilly Millionaire

Hillbilly Millionaire

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Why?

"

Someone needs to explain to me why

seemingly-rational people are turning a blind eye

to the obvious, and are supporting a man

who represents none of their core beliefs--I don't understand

why, if they truly believe a certain way,

they're so willing to throw them under the bus, and say

they're willing to abandon what's deeply important

to them--I've tried, I really have, to figure out their assortment

of truly mind-blowing excuses, apparently, they're so desperate to win at all costs,

what they believe is not important--they just cannot be saddled with another loss.

I can sort of understand the rich, supporting a man who's all about making money,

if it wasn't so serious, it might be funny.

Explain evangelicals, supporting a man who obviously is not

religious, who panders, and spouts absolute rot?

And the poor, without two nickels to rub together?

What possible reasons can they site that hell make their lives better?

Excellent writing, and I share your thoughts exactly. Apparently, they (I think we know who I'm speaking of) will discard everything they've ever claimed to believe in, in order to support the guy who reflects their hates and fears. Some may have wondered how monsters come to power--well, this is how.

Thank you, and I couldn't agree with you more. Even if he can't win, and I don't think he will, he's.. read more
If I were to take a stab, I'd guess this is about our much-adored Donald. I feel that your message is spot-on in many ways. I'm just not a fan of turning disagreements into personal attacks. Then we're all just attacking each other, adding fuel to the fire, & nothing gets accomplished. Still, you've done a good job of painting a fresh view of the fight between rich & poor in the US.
