There Once Was...

There Once Was...

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

I knew a guy one...

"

There once was this stupid dick, who always posed as me,

he arose from the wreckage of what he thought would be.

This is how stupid he was--he actually believed fair is fair.

He was caught by the short hairs, in reality's glare.

I wish I could say he learned the medium to hard way,

but that wouldn't quite be true--he never learned s**t--say

what you want about adapting, and 'learn as you go',

this guy headed straight for the wall, and never veered, no,

I--err--he walked blindly ahead, right into the buzz saw,

the man with the 'loser!' tag, and no luck of the draw!

Reviews

Not sure how to review this poem, as I'm not 100% clear on the overall message. But I can say there are spots of brilliance that I relate to totally. For example, "fair is fair" (being a sign of stupidity) . . . I like this, as a way of saying; "life is NOT fair" (and you're stupid if you think so). I don't like messages that put people down & call people stupid. But I also know that people call themselves stupid all the time. I get that this narrator is beating himself up greatly. And I've done that. So I won't mark you down for expressing the ugly things we say to ourselves a lot of the times. Be brave! What you have to say counts!
