Never Judge a Book by it's Cover!

A Story by Michael Stevens

Okay, so I was wrong--sue me!

I few weeks ago, I learned that the old saying, 'Never judge a

book by it's cover' is oh, so true. A friend of mine said she'd just

heard a song by the punkish band 'Disturbed'. Now, as soon as I

heard 'Disturbed' I had already dismissed it, not only

because I don't care for their type of music, but also because it

was covering 'Sound of Silence' by Simon and Garfunkel.

I figured with a punkish band, their interpretation would leave me

cold, and as soon as I looked it up on Google, my prejudice

seemed to be confirmed. The singer looked like he could compete

in a fishing derby with his face. A ring was jutting out

just below his bottom lip. So I started the video, with a certainty I

wouldn't like it, and what I heard floored me. It was incredible!

The guy's voice was about as far from punk as you could get. I

kept waiting for the screaming punk explosion, but it

never came. It started off beautiful, and stayed that way

throughout. His vocals, while they became more powerful as the

song progressed, never strayed into freak

territory. I can honestly say it's one of the best songs I've ever

heard.I heartily give it three thumbs up!

I also have listened to them since I wrote this, and they're not

punk, like I had assumed, but they sound metal, 'doh!'
