Explain the Inexplicable to Me

Explain the Inexplicable to Me

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

I tried not to, I really tried!

"

Verse:

Fruit Loop-eating weekend warriors scream for policy experience,

yet they back a man with less than none,

Evangelicals justify backing a man who clearly isn't religious,

for some unknown reason, with phasers set to stun.

Pre-Chorus:

They've clearly got me, cause I don't understand,

how they can throw their ideals under the bus for this man.

Verse:

They're voting against what they deemed as important.

And I watch all this happening with an incredulous wry smile.

I listen to them justify, or try to justify, his crude deportment.

I watch his bottom-of-the-barrel antics, and all I hear is, "seig heil!"

Pre-Chorus:

I guess I should be happy, for his never-ending supply

of writing motivation, but he's such a bile-churning guy.

Chorus:

How do you Explain the Inexplicable?

How do you explain the letting go of principals

by his desperate supporters? I'll never understand

why seemingly-rational people are following this man?

Verse:

You know, I was just going to give it a rest.

Today was going to be a Trump-free day,

and I was going to post something in jest--

something non-Trump, but then he has to say

Pre-Chorus:

something that justifies my position,

not about substance, no, the supposition

that he knows something bad

about a fellow candidate's wife--instant mad!

Repeat Chorus:

End

Despite his popularity, I don't think Trump is going to be president. More than likely Clinton will be the first woman president in the same way Obama was the first black president.

I'd like to hear this, even though I've never like political songs.

I probably don't have a right to comment, since we have a no substance GQ wannabe as our leader at the moment, but I am reasonably sure he won't goad some egomaniac dictator into pressing a button that obliterates a good chunk of humanity. Since I was a kid, people have been predicting a nuclear holocaust, now I believe there is a distinct possibility that may happen. A woman with his moral track record would be burned at the stake -- not to mention his shady way of declaring bankruptcy to keep his wealth. The religious right has really hitched their wagon to the devil -- what's he going to do to repay them?
Besides all that, it's a well done poem.
