Song Out of Nothing

Song Out of Nothing

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Something out of nothing!

"

Verse:

Watch me now, spin gold out of straw.

To think up new ideas, guess I'm slow on the draw.

So, maybe not exactly gold, sort of literary pot metal!

Okay, on the run-of-the-mill, I always settle.

Pre-Chorus:

I'll make it work, as I try to force a round nothing

into a square nothing hole, try to make it something.

Verse:

This is CPR for several dead-end phrases

The baseball bat called reality stuns and dazes!

Yet, I keep trying, it's full speed ahead,

over a cliff, I'm falling, and over jagged rocks I'll be spread!

Pre-Chorus:

I desperately and determinedly keep trying to pump

life and some kind of sense, into this lifeless creativity lump!

Chorus:

Song Out of Nothing, song out of s**t,

There's something here, I do submit.

When I'm in doubt, when I should pack it in,

That old reality bat swings, and I take it on the chin!

Verse:

If at first you don't succeed, learn to like defeat.

The old saying is true, I guess, 'you are what you eat!"

I'm determined to conquer this rhyming nightmare,

cause I'll prove, even when the creativity cupboard looks bare

Pre-Chorus:

you can cobble together nothing into something, and make it shine,

it's the literary equivalent to turning water to wine!

Repeat Chorus:

End
