America Stands for...

Time for a reminder

I think lately, our message has been tarnished

by hate-speech, so I'd like to remind people of the unvarnished

 

truth--America stands for decency, not cold-hearted bluster.

Seems with all the ranting, that we've somehow lost our luster.

 

America stands for inclusion, not shutting certain people out,

and we stand for a hope, not for fear and doubt.

 

We stand for a level playing field for all--that if you try, good things

await, not roadblocks and dissention, and all the harm those bring.

 

America stands for progress, not going back in time

to the bad old days, that for good reason we left far behind.

 

We should look to the future, not to the past, for it's gone.

We need to look in the mirror for all that's wrong,

 

instead of blaming others, for that's such an easy way,

to find a scapegoat to blame everything on, today.
