The Lied Piper

The Lied Piper

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Follow at our peril!

"

Cut to pieces by reflection,

because it's a double-bladed sword.

The Republican nominee doesn't, and

some of the voters don't either--ignored

on both counts are lessons of the past,

the hard-learned trials that should be behind us.

Apparently, the truth is an inconvenient one,

laughed at, ridiculed, and stomped into dust

by someone who is doing immeasurable harm,

but who doesn't care--what's in it for him?

He's the political Pied Piper, promising easy fixes

to complex problems--follow, and our future looks dim.
