The Divide

The Divide

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

What passes for politics these days

"
Verse:

Seems I woke from a nightmare to a nightmare that's all-too real.

We're careening down the highway, with anger at the wheel.

I wait in confused vain for the world I used to know,

now we're fighting about issues I thought we settled long ago.

Pre-Chorus:

Things like a woman's right to choose, guns,

all the laws once set in stone are being undone.

Verse:

Seems to me, mankind has lost all the gains

we've been trying to achieve, and forgot how to use our brains.

And the divide between us continues to grow,

until we now argue about what we used to know.

Pre-Chorus:

It's hard to debate when we disagree on the facts.

Such a deep division, that it stops us in our tracks.

Chorus:

 The Times They Are a-Changin'

And That Ain't Good!

We argue about everything--

the other side's misunderstood

Brother against brother,

in an undeclared civil war.

Tearing it all to pieces,

everything we've been fighting for.

Verse:

Two steps forward, and four back in time and deed.

Yelling and arguing, over what we think everyone needs.

To find our way home again, I'm afraid it's much too late.

We're left stranded, alone, and screaming towards our fate.

Repeat 2nd Pre-Chorus:

Repeat Chorus:

End
