My own unique rating system!

Verse:

 

'I' is for 'idiotic--'I' is for 'immature',

that's my rating for the media, for sure.

 

It's also rated 'u' for 'un-fricking-believable!'

I didn't think their level was even achievable--

 

Pre-Chorus:

 

said level is sub-par and child-like at best.

If you want believe all you see on the news, be my guest!

We viewers are getting ripped, but a lot of us don't know.

Yes, the standards since Walter have fallen mighty low.

 

Used to be T.V. news was a sacred institution,

now stupidity is their one and only contribution.

 

 

Pre-Chorus:

 

They treat us all like we average 10-12 years old,

it's "Shock and Aw, S**t!" Our reactions are controlled.

 

Chorus:

 

Everything we see as fact, should be Rated 'I',

They just accept what is said, and don't question, 'why?'

Just a delivery system for the talking points of the day.

Politicians have learned the toothless media will trumpet what they say.

Our sympathy's being played, but in this game

the truth can be a casualty--reality in a frame--

 

the picture changed to fit the network's ideology

and filtered though the lens. Beware of all you see.

I must agree that the media has developed a way of insulting the intelligence of those who have it. It is sad that truth has been removed and we are only left with buffoonery.

You can't go wrong with a Walter Cronkite reference. If you ever re work this it'd be bad a*s if you worked an Edward Murrow reference in there.

I apologize, wrong poem-- I deleted the first comment I made, as I thought it was about another poem I wrote. that's what happens when you try to reply PC (pre-coffee!) So thank you much--and Murrow would have been another good example of quality journalism, which has disappeared a long time ago, now days!

Anderson Cooper seems to be at least trying. John Oliver, while not a journalist, does an excellent job getting into relevant issues in a palatable way. The internet and cable news channels have diluted the talent pool I thinks.

I agree, John Oliver and before him, Jon Stewart, are excellent--but it's a sad take on the sorry state of our media that two COMEDIANS are our best journalists. I'll give Anderson Cooper credit for at least TRYING.

Stewart and Oliver aren't the best journalists or even really journalists at all. They openly mislead for the sake of comedy; their comedy is informed by current events but ultimately they are there for the laughs. They just happen to reach a very wide audience. There is no shortage of great journalists they just don't get the airtime and the focus of main stream media has shifted drastically away from reliably accurate. Christine Amanpour is great, Bob Woodward is still around, all the Egypt stuff was covered well, there are some very good Washington Post stories coming out about N Korea, and Anderson Cooper deserves more credit than you give him here. The state of the media is trash not for a lack of talent but for a lack of air time for the actual talent. Too many stilted talking heads like Bill Oreilly or Rachel Maddow dominate the scene, it sounds like sports talk radio most of the time.

I didn't really mean they were journalists, it's just that they reach a wider audience than news channels. More young people get their news from them, than mainstream news channels, which explains why the news networks DO more closely resemble a reality show/sporting event than hard news. They're desperately trying to reach them. But in the process, they're embarrassing themselves. Yes, Anderson Cooper and a handful of others are TRYING to do real news, but the networks they work for won't let them. I guess I'm so anti-news network, that ANYONE who works for them is subject to my sarcasm.

Well, consider my balls busted--I like to pretend I know everything about everything, when the truth is, I'm often just flapping my face to see my mouth move. I just give my opinion on things, and I'm far from an expert myself!
