New Dark Ages

New Dark Ages

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Beware!

"

Once upon a time, believe it or not, and not so long ago,

we were progressive in thinking, and ideas they did flow.

And all mankind kept moving ahead, leaving The Dark Ages far behind.

We looked for any kind of compromise that we could find.

Compromise wasn’t a dirty word, like it is today,

One side wasn’t adamant that they’d get their way,

All or nothing was unheard of, because we all understood

that was how our government was set up"that without it, you could

get nothing done, and the gears would grind to a halt.

Then it all collapsed rapidly, and each side said the other was at fault.

Deep thinking and common sense, these things were once the rule,

but now they’re the exception"we lost the thinking duel.

How can anyone possibly understand who doesn’t remember the past?

We’ve got to remember, or it will soon be our last.

The definition of insanity is repeating the same things over and again.

Now, were going back to the bad old days back then!
