Sometimes, The Well, She Dry!

Sometimes, The Well, She Dry!

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

sometimes!

"
"Reach down deep!" I've so often heard it said,

but, sometimes, there just whine there instead.

I'm going to stand up, and be a tough-guy man,

at least that's what I tell myself, again and again.

Some days, the Well of Courage is sucking the dregs, and why?

There's nothing but scum at the bottom, cause the damn thing is dry!

Some days, I'm wearing a dress and listening to show tunes,

I sound like a broken record, and look like damsel stuck in a monsoon,

whose hair is made a mess by the howling wind of an invisible storm.

Except I ain't got some hair, oh, well, whiny is my norm.

Sometimes, The Well of Courage, She Dry as a bone,

and the imagined fright, just won't leave me alone!
