He's Right

He's Right

A Story by Michael Stevens
"

We need a way through gridlock

"

Mom and I just read an article by David Brooks, the 'right', along with the 'left' of Mark Shields on PBS, who called for the formation of a third party, one who would include both the disaffected Trump supporter and the disaffected Sanders/Warren wings of the Republican-Democratic Parties. Right now, it is extremely polarized, with each side miles apart on belief, seeing the other side as 'evil'. Each side's belief system has left the moderates in each party with nowhere to go. I also believe that this divide has given rise to Trump. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a far-left liberal, but I can see that demanding your way on everything will do nothing to bring us together, and we've already seen what division does to our government, brings it to a crashing halt in gridlock. I believe that the philosophy of both the far-right, and the far-left, has left us unable to compromise, or to move forward. And so, I agree with David Brooks, we need a new party, one who doesn't view the word 'compromise' as somehow totally surrendering, the "Reality' Party, if you will.
