Impossible!

Impossible!

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Desperation!

"

'Impossible!' I screamed as the ideas stopped flowing,

'What am I going to get for Dad?' I wondered without

knowing.

Web page after web page scrolled by on my screen,

and the more that flashed by, the more I panicked, if

you know what I mean?

There was a monogrammed barbecue set, but that

would never do,

he's not a barbecuer, I screamed 'what?' till I was blue

in the face. My mom became concerned at the

strange cries

of frustration emanating from my room, what was I

going to buy

him? Scroll, panic, scroll panic, became almost like a

trance,

a ritual of increasing desperation, a trance of 'not-a-

chance!'

Page after page went by in my numbness, my darkest

fears

looked certain, I'd find nothing to get him, not this

year!

Then, thank God, it was mom to the rescue, as is so

often the case.

She offered a solution on what to get him, to help me

save face.

I wouldn't be the first son ever to give their dad a box

of nothing,

I wouldn't be a loser, at least at this, I had to admit,

most begrudging!
