Trumped-Up News

A Story by Michael Stevens
"

Welcome to a new (s) day

"
It's a sad truth that Trump being elected and the rise of social media are linked, dire consequences are coming to pass, and the future looks bleak. I saw a report about a guy reading a story online, about how Hillary Clinton was involved with a child sex ring, and decided to investigate for himself, firing a gun in the process. Now, on the surface, this had nothing to do with Trump himself, but I say it has everything to do with his tweeting out lies which are easily disproved, but his supporters don't care, apparently, they don't believe most media reports, and some are intelligence-challenged. It seems to me that we're regressing, not progressing on that score. The blurring of the line between actual and fabricated news is fast producing a dangerous world in which anyone can claim anything, and some will believe it, no matter how ludicrous, and decide to act on it.

Anymore, a person has to investigate, on his own, the validity of a news report. But that's a problem, see, most people aren't willing to investigate, they'll just act like the story is true, never mind it was written by a dude in his underwear, guzzling his eight beer, and harboring a grudge against society, who he blames for his getting s**t-canned from the tire store. The day is fast-approaching, or has already arrived, where someone is going to be killed, simply because some deranged person saw a phony news story, and decided to act, I shudder to think of the dark future.
