To Rule The Stars

To Rule The Stars

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Aliens, Hell, 'we don't need no stinking aliens!'

"
A collaboration between Hullabaloo22 and myself:

We’re under observation from way up in the sky

where those aliens are watching and can’t help but wonder why

the world is over-heating and the atmosphere turned red,

a heat that’s born from anger, from bigotry and dread.

Ziggerlert and Zango cannot work out what they see,

the tensions that are being stirred between both you and me;

that bullying is rampant, that insults fly around,

that intolerance is in fashion now, it’s covering the ground.

Their mission was to watch and wait, to work out just when to strike

but it’s starting to dawn on them that they will not need much might;

the work is being done for them, it looks like they’re in luck --

that the planet that was targeted is set to self-destruct.

Over the cliff, we're plunging to oblivion.

The heavy lifting is all over, over and done.

It's reverse-revolution without firing a shot, clever.

We're doing it to ourselves, by pulling the lever,

now the aliens can kick back and watch the show,

seems the more we see, the less we know.

Playing Russian Roulette with every chamber full,

over our own eyes, we've pulled the wool.

The aliens goal was destruction of the whole human race,

as Bush famously said, "Mission Accomplished!''with egg on our face

They can rest easy, the galaxy's rendered non-threatening,

It's more than they'd hoped, it may have started here, but stupidity, it's spreading
