2016: The Year That Everything ChangedA Poem by Michael StevensA partial recap![]() Twenty Sixteen had its great bits for me because it was then that I found a home with Booksie,
a site for reading and writing and being myself and finding so many postings to put on my shelf.
But there’s sure been some problems during this year, an outbreak of Zika that was causing some fear.
Closer to home and just this month came a warning of an avian flu, but there has been a dawning
of hope " a vaccination that fights against Ebola’s threat. And there’s been a car that won’t need driving " what I need to get!
There were terrorist outrages in Brussels and Berlin, planes that were brought down by bombs held within;
attacks on beaches, attacks on some bars remembering both Nice and Tunisia.
Ukip fought against Europe, the UK voted out, now Britain and the Euro Zone are clouded by doubt;
the currencies are swinging, they threatened to crash and all of life’s certainties have been turned to trash --
not least from the shock result in the U. S. of A so I’ll hand over to Mike to let him have his say.
Well thank you, Hully, and where to begin? It was a year that saw fall of intelligent thought,
Take a super-ego, add arrogant narcissism, with a dash of ignorance, and a sense of pessimism,
and what have you got, a Trump presidency, God help us all. But he's just a symptom of mankind's intelligence fall.
In Britain, they voted to dump the EU, just another self-inflicted 'screw you!'
David Bowie and Mohammed Ali checked out, Adding to the toll that made 2016 a sad year, no doubt.
A super-patriot stand-off on an Oregon wildlife refuge, only added to stupidity, that made this Christmas the holiday of Scrooge.
There was the drinking water crisis in Flint, if you wanted to see some good news, you had squint.
Then there was the plight of the unwanted refugee, looking for somewhere safe, but heard, 'you can't live by me.'
Seemingly settled issues were argued once more, the return to isolationism-'Katie, bar the door.'
The death of Antonin Scalia left America's courts is a mess. The Republicans said 'no' when they should have said 'yes'
Just another example of the rise of the far-right. Just another example of 'thinking, say good night!' So, all in all, it was a year to forget, I'll not miss 2016, some good, mostly bad, it was a good year for venting my spleen!
